The number above the steamship indicates its level. By increasing the level of a steamship, you can increase the amount of experience you get for each loaded barrel, or decrease the time it takes to return to port. Steamship levels can be upgraded for ingots in the Production Center or with coupons (which can be obtained by participating in races and special game events, for seasonal points in the race store, or as part of special offers on Westbucks purchases).
